I just got a call last night from someone who needed an emergency replacement for a wedding. They have a violinist playing also, and I still don't know what the music is! Honestly, I am quite nervous about this situation!

The wedding went great! I did indeed have a really good time, and the bride was extremely happy (which is always a great big plus!) It was a unique fun atmosphere, really easy going...they even had a slushy machine!

I've done a couple weddings in rock bands, and it really depends on what the hosts/couple want. One gig they just wanted us to rock out, and that we did. The other the couple wanted quite a few specific tunes, and we did our part and learned them. One good thing about it being very structured is that you are pretty much guaranteed that the audience will be into it and happy at the end. And as Dr J says, "wedding appropriate" is a good idea to stick to (unless the couple say "just rock out!"). "Bohemian Rhapsody" may be a very well crafted song, but the subject matter is not really appropriate for the situation. Unless the bride and groom say "just rock out!"

That's pretty much what I have done. I did try to reference this site for some music as well, but it seems the wedding section is somewhat lacking. Fortunately, I have accumulated several pieces of beautiful music over the years that will do. The bride only requested 2 pieces, one for her processional, the other with the violin, and the rest she left open, which is nice, because the longest play time will be as the guests are seated. So it should all work out! The wedding is tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes with the violinist, as we have never played together!
